COMMUNITY CORNER: The Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry (CAGP)
The NICE Network is proud to list many members of The Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry (CAGP) among its ranks. Included in this distinguished group is CAPG’s Chair of the Board Dr. Martha Donnelly (for more on Dr. Donnelly please see the member feature section on the last page).
The CAPG is a national organization of psychiatrists promoting mental health among the elderly through clinical, educational, research and advocacy activities. The CAGP provides educational support to students, residents and fellows through awards, fellowships and grants. These include a one year fellowship; a two year resident award; a research in education grant; and an award for outstanding contributions to geriatric psychiatry in Canada.
The CAGP is also involved in policy and planning. They develop position papers for Federal Standing Committees, create guidelines for geriatric psychiatry training and work collaboratively with other national stakeholders to plan and advocate for new and innovative solutions. CAPG members are also involved in the development of provincial health policy activities.
Each year CAGP sponsors a 1-day annual scientific meeting. The meeting brings together ideas from national leaders in geriatric psychiatry. Throughout the year the CAGP maintains communication with its members through an Annual Report, newsletters, bulletins and updates on its website.
For more information on the CAGP please visit their website: www.cagp.ca or contact 416- 921-5443.
