Elder Abuse Team: Knowledge to Action Project - Dissemination Forums and Year One Tools

EAbillingualLogo.jpg

The NICE Elder Abuse Team: Knowledge to Action is a three year project which extends and expands the activities of our Elder Abuse Theme Team.  The project has two central components: (1) the development and dissemination of tools for detection, intervention and prevention of elder abuse and (2) seniors' leadership and advocacy.  Our activities take place across Canada.

Tool Development and Upcoming Dissemination Forums

The Team develops and disseminates bilingual, evidence–based tools for social workers, health care providers, caregivers and the police.  Each year new tools will be developed, piloted and disseminated at forums held across Canada.  Current tools in development include:

  • Elder Abuse Suspicion Index - EASI
  • Caregiver Abuse Screen - CASE
  • Indicators of Abuse Screen - IOA
  • In-Hand - Ethical Decision-Making Framework
  • Elder Abuse - Assessment and Intervention Guide
Click here to read more about our upcoming dissemination forums and to register.  Forums are in the process of being scheduled throughout the month of March 2010 and beyond.

Seniors' Leadership and Advocacy

Seniors are an integral part of our project.  Seniors act as Regional Coordinators in five sites across Canada.  As Regional Coordinators, seniors help lead the project in their region, and they also conduct presentations to raise awareness about elder abuse in their communities.
